You say it like this: Sensing Living Systems.
In German, it means: “To feel living systems.”
A system is something made of many parts working together.

a human being
a forest
a school

Examples of living systems are:
your body
a plant

What is the project about?
The project helps people to feel living systems.
Not only with the mind, but with the whole body: With the nose, the ears, the hands, and with movement.
The project asks:
What does connection smell like?
What does living together feel like?
How can we sense that everything is connected?
Who is doing the project?
The project is made by artists and researchers.
Their names are MUELLER-DIVJAK (Jeanette Müller and Paul Divjak), Alexandra Graupner and Anna-Maria Irgang. They work with many people from different countries – like Austria, Thailand, Myanmar and the USA.
What happens in the project?
There are many artistic activities, for example:
Installations
These are special spaces that you can visit.
You can smell, touch, listen and explore.
Performances
These are shows where you can experience smells and sounds.
For example: “Drawing Trees with Scent” –
a scent-based farewell to missing forests.
Workshops
In the Sensing Workshops you can join in.
You touch objects, smell plants and talk about what you feel.
There were workshops for school classes in Vienna and Thailand.
Scent Voting
You could take part in a big vote:
How would a being smell that knows everything about connection?
Dance Installation
The newest installation is called “SYS Dance”.
There you can dance, listen to music, smell –
and celebrate living systems!
Who is the project for?
The project is for everyone.
For children, teenagers and adults.
For people with and without disabilities.
With or without knowledge.
For you!
Why is this important?
When you can feel living systems, you can understand the world better.
You learn:
Everything is connected.
I am part of something bigger.
My body is a living system.
We need good ways of living together –
for us and for our planet.
